Take Your Pick
There's a litany of options I can throw out for my interests, but we're going to limit it to 3 for the sake of time and the assignment. A few that missed deeper explanation are dogs (I'm a siberian husky father and have cared for 6 total now), gaming (Deadlock, Slay the Spire 2, Baldur's Gate 3, and Darkest Dungeon to name a few), reading (the Grishaverse/Mr. Mercedes series are pretty peak), and horror movies (The Thing, Scream, and Alien are my favorites).
While I'm sure you've heard of the mainline Pokemon games, there's a whole scene that dedicates itself to competing at the highest level in regulated formats across the various generations of games; primarily, there are two formats: Smogon Singles and VGC, which both can be broken down to Team-Sheet Tournaments and Draft Leagues. For me, I primarily compete in Draft Leagues Singles, but I've recently started to play VGC in their new game Pokemon Champions. Basically, the entire game is building or drafting your team and deciding what sets you should bring considering the general game meta or your scheduled opponent, depending on the format. It's such a passion project of mine that a few friends and I built a draft league that's spanned for 8 seasons now!
For the record: I aspire to make a website this sick. There's an interactive movie theatre with a built-in video player? Awesome. Anyways, Ice Nine Kills, my favorite band, are also horror fanatics and devout lovers of the genre, going so far to create their last three albums about horror mediums. It started with Every Trick in the Book, which featured novels such as The Nature of the Beast for Animal Farm, Hell in the Hallways to represent Carrie, and Communion of the Cursed for The Exorcist. Next, they dove into movies with The Silver Scream, sending their popularity sky-high with such a revolutionary idea; a few hits off this album include Stabbing in the Dark to mirror Halloween, IT Is the End for IT, and The American Nightmare for A Nightmare on Elm Street. For their latest album, they stuck with movies and nearly perfected it, releasing The Silver Scream 2: Welcome to Horrorwood. Almost every single track is a gem here, but my favorites are Welcome to Horrorwood, Take Your Pick inspired by My Bloody Valentine, and Farewell II Flesh inspired by Candyman. They weren't the first band I've seen live, but they are the first one I've moshed to (Wurst Vacation was the first song) and the only musicians I've seen three times in one tour. There's a few new songs that I absolutely adore, but they're only singles at this time: A Work of Art, Meat & Greet, Twisting the Knife (featured in the end credits of Scream 7), The Laugh Track, and The Great Unknown, which is a radio hit you might've heard before!
Writing
Probably my second oldest hobby next to gaming, creative and professional writing have always been a huge part of my life; from traditional fantasty to sci-fi to horror, there's really not a genre I haven't explored yet, but it's a big reason I enjoy reading so much as an adult. Here's a few sample pieces to showcase a few of the projects I've worked on throughout the years: first, an original story placed in the League of Legends universe themed around the Fiddlesticks release called Demacian Nights. Next, here's a more opinion-based research essay discussing the History of Violence in Video Games, where I visited the Museum of Play and even surveyed random individuals myself. Lastly, there was a point in time I wrote scripts for a League of Legends news channel called The League Digest, featuring the episode Whose Lane Is It Anyway?
