Chapter Seven

As ridiculous as it might sound, I never knew what the G stood for in “5G”. Not only did it never cross my mind to look it up, but I don’t even know what I thought it stood for; it's kind of just existed and got accepted for what it was. Generation does make a lot of sense, considering how wireless networks swing it around like a badge of honor, though I never knew there were 2.5 and 3.5 variants either. Since I had a cellphone, it always fluctuated between 4G, 5G, 5G LTE, and 1x in the worst of it; speaking of LTE, I never knew what that stood for or meant either: Long Term Evolution. That one still doesn’t make a lot of sense, to be fair.

Wireless Mesh Networks always seemed so reliable, until our cable provider offered them to us in lieu of a router; in hindsight, why would that have ever been a good idea? Surely these little plug-in nodes aren’t powerful enough to emulate the signal strength of a quality router, which is why most large-scale networks tend to use other routers as their mesh network components. Encryptions, as mentioned in the module, are incredibly important for almost anyone surfing the web these days. While I’m familiar with the process and purpose, it’s hard to fathom websites used to lack that level of security. Why wouldn’t you protect the entirety of their personal information outside of their login information? Doesn’t that defeat the point, if they can still see what’s on the account without logging in themselves?
