Chapter Eight

Chapter 8 is the first chapter on the list that really feels like it’s extremely relevant to the course we’re taking, despite the rest being basic functionality of the internet; however, it’s still pretty familiar material that I’ve learned during high school. Hypertext Markup Language is the backbone of the internet, responsible for literally almost every single page we encounter anymore. Even if the majority of the script is done in Java or CSS, it’s still framed and posted in an HTML document. While I understood the anchor tag for links, the quantity and function of headers, and how to properly structure an HTML doc, having a resource that just showed commonly accepted fonts is extremely useful, especially for our project coming around at the end of the semester.

Another aspect I partially understood but gained more information on is the definition list; usually, I just indented underneath it to make it structure pretty much the same, but it’s nice to know there’s a type that properly formats to those needs. Again, having a giant list of taught tags is another indispensable resource for us in the coming weeks. Knowing what domain to choose is pretty important, especially considering reliability, the necessary server load, and overall cost; I haven’t posted my own site before, but I’m considering using our end-of-year project again as a portfolio, if it turns out nice enough.
